Grants for breast health education, breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment support programs are provided by Komen Affiliates with funds raised through events such as the Komen Race for the Cure®.
Komen Affiliates award grants only to other non-profit organizations, educational institutions and government entities within their defined service areas.
In order to ensure the funds raised make the greatest impact, Komen Affiliates work with local medical experts and community leaders to conduct comprehensive community needs assessments. These community profiles are then used to establish local grant application and review processes consistent with the Foundation’s standards and mission.
Programs funded from affiliate fund-raising events range from educating women about healthy behaviors and early detection to providing treatment services to women and men who are low income/uninsured. The affiliate empowers women to take charge of their own health through participation in breast health seminars and outreach support targeting underserved and hard to reach populations.
Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds from Aspen Affiliate fund-raising events stay in our tri-county service area to fund low and no-cost mammograms, education on the importance of monthly Breast Self-exams and early detection, and access to start-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and procedures. The remaining 25 percent of the net proceeds support the National Komen Foundation Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.
The Aspen Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For The Cure® is pleased to announce that we granted over $700,000 to fund the following programs for our 2007 Grant Recipients. Almost $500,000 of this funding was to local agencies:
